Young Italian fashion designer Alice Saltarelli designed her first solo iS Collection which is inspired by the book, ‘Journey to the Centre of the Earth’, by Jules Verne.
It's a fantastic journey through the colours and Iceland's wonders, a land of great contrasts, a great point of reference for her collection. iS means ice in Icelandic, but not only literally, but in absolute terms: it is the very essence of that territory and is all that is.
Starting from an in-depth investigation of traditional and ethnic Norwegian costumes (such as hats, typical of the Faroe Islands), Alice created stratified garments using materials with different textures: light and impalpable, but also high-tech and heavily lined. Strong contrasts in materials embody the idea of the collection: a couture-allure sportswear.
In general, Saltarelli likes to transform the raw materials she uses into something new: draped dresses are made of PVC - lightweight, hand-dyed and stitched smoke; padded feather garments by hand, are covered with strips of printed tulle.
Saltarelli chooses to use fabrics with a soft palette of almost iridescent colours, from mustard to nude, up to almond green. Another distinguishing feature of the pieces are the zippers: not just functional but also decorative, with sartorial stitching, artfully following the outlines of the garments.
